1st Great Doneraile Steeplechase Challenge a huge success !

There will be several reasons to remember this event. Rain. That will certainly be among what
people remember. It came in buckets from start to finish. The good spirit of spectators and
volunteers will also be high on the list. First and foremost though will be the 144 brave souls who
ran and walked a really tough 5 miles Steeple to Steeple and through Doneraile Park. Fitting too that
Doneraile women would feature so well in the inaugural event with the first lady home local woman
Elaine Thompson with her sister, Geraldine Shallow finishing in 4th place. Well done ladies.

Sincere Thanks

This would not have been possible without the significant help we received from Gardai, Red Cross,
and Volunteers. Doneraile GAA were particularly helpful providing many of the volunteers on
the day. Maurice Brennan, Ciara France, Jimmy and Davey Callaghan and Timmy Nagle especially
provided significant input in the run up the event. Local OPW staff were also terrific particularly
Dave Ryall for input and guidance. The juvenile team of Mairead Corbett, Linda and Mike Ryan, John
Joe Cremin, Cian Cremin, Jamie Roche and Paul Buckley were very efficient in the way the juvenile
races were run off so well. Our sincere thanks to one and all.

The Medalists

Danny Smith was first man home, followed by Tim O Connor and Sean Harte. Elaine Thomson was
first lady followed by Anna O Neil and Loretto Duggan. Well done to all and many thanks for making
this event a success.
